Scrotal/Testicular Ultrasound
What is a Scrotal/Testicular Ultrasound?A scrotal or testicular ultrasound is a safe, painless test that uses sound waves (not radiation) to evaluate the anatomy of the testicles, epididymis, and vascularity. Inguinal hernias can also be evaluated upon request by your physician.
How does it work?
You’ll lie on your back while a warm gel is applied to the scrotum. A small handheld device called a transducer is gently moved over the area to capture detailed images on a screen. The exam is quick, non-invasive, and does not involve any needles or radiation.
Why is it important?
This ultrasound helps providers check for causes of pain, swelling, or lumps. It can detect conditions like testicular torsion, infection, fluid buildup, or tumors. It’s a simple, reliable way to get important answers about your health and guide the right care.
Patient Preparation
There is no specific patient preparation for this exam. You will be asked to disrobe from the waist down and provided with sheets and towels for your privacy.
