What is a Breast Ultrasound?
A breast ultrasound is a safe, painless test that uses sound waves (not radiation) to create pictures of the inside of the breast. Breast ultrasounds are a supplement to mammography and do not replace a screening or diagnostic mammogram. Talk to your physician to see if a breast ultrasound is right for you.

How does it work?
While you lie comfortably, a warm gel is applied to the skin. A small handheld device called a transducer is gently moved over the breast, sending sound waves that create images on a screen. The test is quick, non-invasive, and does not involve any needles or radiation.

Why is it important?
Breast ultrasounds help providers look more closely at areas of concern found during a physical exam or mammogram. They are especially useful for checking lumps, cysts, or changes in breast tissue. This test provides valuable information to guide care and give peace of mind
